12-Inches of Pleasure: Raw Silk “Do It To The Music”

Time for another “12 inches of pleasure” on this beautiful Wednesday. We couldn’t upload the soundbite due to copyrights (i tried) but nonetheless i hope you catch the vibe.

Raw Silk consisted of Ron Dean Miller and Bert Reid (two Crown Heights Affair members) and three female vocalist; Jessica Cleaves, Tenita Jordan and Sybil Thomas.

They were active between 1979 and 1983 and signed to label West End Records, one of my personal favorite labels. Raw Silk had some moderate hit productions under West End and this 12” named “Do it to the music” is one of them. The airy vocals, distinctive disco vibes, clear cut hooks and drum claps make it such a feel good track.

I was still unborn in 1982 or maybe just born but i always imagined Studio 54 to feel like this track does. And for exactly 6.37 minutes i’m transported back to 1982 watching Nicky Siano play this track in that spaceship-like, oval-shaped dj booth. All the while i’m sliding all over the Studio 54 floor showing off some slightly offbeat disco moves, probably making a fool of myself.

But i do that to the music. For the music.
